UUCSA Political Strategy Committee

The UUCSA Political Strategy Committee was established to build a coordinated, long-term Muslim civic voice in South Africa. Following the 2024 elections, South Africa entered a new era of coalition politics where organised minority communities now carry disproportionate influence. The Committee operates on a five-year plan built around four pillars: political education, community mobilisation, research and evidence, and alliance building. Its work is focused on moving the Muslim community from fragmented, reactive civic participation to a structured, unified, and nationally coordinated presence. UUCSA does not form political parties and does not tell anyone who to vote for. Its mandate is simple: ensure the Muslim community engages the political process in an informed, strategic, and unified way.

Our Strategy

The Committee's work is anchored in four clear lines of action: institutionalising political education and voter awareness campaigns; mobilising Muslim voters in key metro areas across Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town; influencing party manifestos and national, provincial, and regional policies through structured, high-level engagements; and building a permanent platform for political advocacy rooted in Islamic values of justice, dignity, and equity.

Are You Registered to Vote?

A vote you cannot cast is a voice that cannot be heard. As coalition governments become the new norm and voter behaviour shifts, organised communities have a unique window to shape policy, influence outcomes, and secure representation. That window requires every eligible Muslim voter to be registered and ready. Check whether you are registered or register for the first time quickly and easily online. The time to act is not the week before an election. It is today. Check your registration status or register to vote here.

What We Are Working Towards

By 2027, the Committee is working towards measurable progress on a set of clear markers: increased Muslim voter turnout in key wards, Muslim policy priorities reflected in major party manifestos, greater representation of Muslim candidates across parties, and a professionalised advocacy platform built to last beyond any single election cycle. These are not overnight outcomes. They are the result of sustained, coordinated effort and this is where that effort begins.

The National Community Survey

UUCSA has launched the first-ever national survey on Muslim political priorities in South Africa. It takes five minutes, is fully anonymous, and is not affiliated with any party. It covers what matters most to Muslim communities: safety, health, education, the halal industry, Islamic finance, burial rights, gambling legislation, land reform, and service delivery. South Africa is entering a period of profound political realignment and this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for the Muslim community to shape that agenda. Every response feeds directly into the Muslim Consensus Document, a unified policy platform to be placed before all major and relevant political parties. Your voice shapes the agenda. Complete the survey here.

The Muslim Consensus Document

The Muslim Consensus Document is the central output of this campaign. It is a unified set of policy priorities drawn directly from the community survey that UUCSA will present to all major and relevant political parties. One voice. One document. One ask. Rather than responding to individual party agendas, the Consensus Document puts the Muslim community's priorities on the table first, requiring parties to engage with what matters to us. The groundwork is already laid: a formal subcommittee exists, a five-year plan is adopted, the survey is live, and the Consensus Document is in production. This is how organised communities shape policy and the work is already underway.
